Windows XP Media Centre Disc

Hello Chaps, Has anyone got a full copy of Windows XP Home Media centre disc, I'm trying to recover an old PC that hasn't been used for about 2 years. I can reboot but the recovery disc does not want to do it's thang.

I can post the disc back.

I have the original COA Licence No. It is a 32 bit PC so don't want anything fancy on it about 8 yrs old.

Any thoughts what to do, it's working OK apart from not booting into XP.

What's the make/model of the PC John?

I think InkyPete had a similar issue not so long back, matching media and COAs is not so simple - you can't just use any disc.

Out of interest, what's up with the disc?

BG, I'll get the exact info or you later, make is HP MEDIA CENTRE PC. Was preloaded with Win XP Media Centre 2005 in May 2005.
I did have the exact build details I'll try to find them.

When I put the system recovery DVD that came with the PC, I get 'non system media' reboot from bootable source.

Next time I try it, I'll note the exact words, possibly tomorrow.
I intend using it as a back up PC only.

Not wishing to tread on anyone's toes here, But the forum is all about sharing your knowledge openly.

That's the second post I've seen of yours today Pfb5 where you are answering by PM.

The PM function is not intended for this purpose.

If all else fails, and you just want to be able to use the computer again (and ain't bothered about the info on it) You can download a Linux OS and create a bootable USB stick. Set the computer to boot from USB first and have a try. If you like it, you can then install it onto the computer and Robert's your proverbial uncle. (although you might not have an Aunt Fanny)

There are NOT two posts today where I have 'answered' by PM.

The PM mentioned on this thread was to give a private telephone number, an address and driving directions to the OP and arrange a meeting so that one member could openly and freely assist another member local to him with the provision of his quest. I don't see that such personal information should be dealt with on open forum, nor can I post two CD's worth of Microsoft operating system on here as an attachment! Surely, this is the purpose of the Personal Message system, and your criticism is ill-founded.

The other PM to which you refer was suggested as a way for a member to have that option to answer my QUESTION in case that HE did not wish to make information public - *I* did not PM him. IF I am able to assist the thread-starter, I will post it on the thread.

The operative word in the post to which you refer may be 'IF', as in "you may PM me, if YOU prefer". I did NOT PM the OP.

If the Member, with a post count much higher than mine, had wanted 5 members to hazard a rough guess, he would have actually given details of his quest and not given the thread a daft title, wouldn't he? Maybe you should haul him over the coals too.

I know that you have the power to edit the title to make it more meaningful, by adding the word 'Guide' - and then, read his question again.

It's OK Mod 2 I won't desert the plumbers

JoinerJohn, I was tempted to put linux or Ubuntu on it.

I intend using it as a back-up, I have a portable hard drive that I copy all my files to and was going to copy these to this PC also.

All my photos are on dvd also.

When you have sorted it, if they are both connected to your router, then you don't need to move the disc between them......just create a few shares :D

I use the router to share between my lappy and deskie

I will also want to pick your brain reference using an old orange router as a WiFi extender later.

Pity you're not on holiday in Hampshire sometime
