Hey folks, thanks for the advice.
One more daft question if I can.
What is the standard height above floor boards to fit the skirting?
Thanks
Architrave and skirting

I tend to use a 1mm shim and rest the skirting on that and fix it. Makes it a lot easier when painting it as you can just slide in newspaper under the slight gap and not faff around with masking the line, etc.ultimatehandyman wrote:You normally fit the skirting flush to the floorboardsRichieRambler wrote:Hey folks, thanks for the advice.

Same trick for varnishing natural skirting (but I always paint mine!)
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman, "Where's the self-help section?"
She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Get in!!!!!
Very happy, finished first fit of architrave and skirting and very happy. Mostly done with No Nails and a bit of nailing and screwing here and there but 90% happy with the result. Some gaps above the skirting and near the door frame but hoping that they will be sorted with Caulk.
What a great sense of achievement to save the money and get a decent result. I'll be building a house next week. Ok, ok, not quite yet!
I guess this game is all about confidence and having a go. Probably seems daft to those that do this for a living or have done much of this but feeling very smug at the moment.
Thanks for the pointers, folks.
