Blank screen

Post by Aged P »

Hi guys I have an Amilio Li2727 which has blank screen, when turning on I get computer did not shut down correctly, start as normal, in save mode, etc. When starting I get the Microsoft corporation logo with scroll then an active mouse pointer and backlit screen but nothing else, if left without touching any keys will get screen saver logos. Any ideas please. I have tryed in safe mode and removed the battery and power cord and held power button for 30 seconds, still no joy

After changing the battery did you check your bios settings ? Do you have any spike protection on the power supply- this can cause many a hardware fail- If hardware ok then Windows has lost its way- recovery disk or go to safe mode -system restore :-)

Doesn't sound like any hardware failure to me, simply sounds like you've got a problem with Windows and it's hanging during startup.

Was you having any problems before you last shut it down? Any weird behaviour, updates, problems?

Do you have access to another PC or the recovery media for your PC?

Having a stupid day, so help me out here.....

What version on Windows have you got installed?

If you have no media, a rescue disc and system restore might be an easy option.

With any luck (if you call Vista being lucky), the other computer you have access too has Vista too.

If it does, fire it up, go Start, All Programs, Maintenance, Create a Recovery Disc

Once you've created the disc, take it to the non-working machine, start from the CD and try system restore from the menu.

Can't use the recovery discs from other versions of Windows unfortunately.

should be fine, as long as it's got service pack 1 installed (if it's not, just run Windows update until it's fully updated).

Weird, ey!

Most of the support has been withdrawn or removed from Vista for those kind of tools, so it's down to forum type support really. I found this:

http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/14182 ... -disc.html

Never used them before, but opened the files and gave a scan to check for obvious stuff. It's up to you really.
