What a Rip Off

Post by kintangoman »

Took my Nissan NV 200 van in for its second year service today.
'Do you want a quote for the service'? She quibbled?
Yes please says I.
'That will be £441.95'. She responded.
Why was the first service £250 and this one is ££450, I asked her?
'Because the fuel filter gets changed at the second service'.
Well, what is the price of a fuel filter? I'd say £50-80 max. How long to replace it? 30 mins max. I can replace it with my eyes closed. I am having to pay £450 for a job I can easily do myself and that will take me a maximum of 2 hrs to complete a car service.
I made sure I changed the front brakes myself last week just in case they change it and bill me extra.
I will do the 3rd service myself and will not get a new van every 3 yrs as was the plan.
Bunch of thieves.

You're a captive market - unless you pay THEIR prices your warranty will be invalid.

Yes, it's a scam.
Don't take it personally......

Yes, it's a scam.

You don't Have to have the service done at a dealership to maintain the warranty..

Provided the vehicle is serviced in accordance with the Manu's spec. then the warranty still applies.

What if you take it to another dealer? (not same owned)
Above are my opinions Below is my signature.

Would you hit a nail with a shoe because you don't have a hammer? of course not, then why work on anything electrical without a means of testing Click Here to buy a "tester" just because it works, does NOT mean it is safe.

Another dealership or an independent ...matters not.

If you do use third party garages then make sure service records are completed and receipts for work retained in case problems with a warranty claim

By end of third year, WARRANTY WILL NOT BE available again as it is for three years, so I should be able to service/repair van myself on weekends.
They gave me a 'courtesy' one year RAC cover, but what is the value? £45?

There is a lot to be said for older vehicles.

At least you can do most tasks yourself.

I am even thinking of getting rid of my Jag (had em for years) and going back to an old Ford Granada or such like.

Ain't that the truth!!!

Took my VW in for a service and they said the brakes and pads were almost totally shot, they wanted my soul in payment!!!

Priced it up, less than 1/2 the price and then some to do it myself. Not a problem, no problems doing that.......until I got the manual. I need VAGCOM/Rosstech software and dongle to retract the parking brake servo's and re-calibrate when they are replaced

Bastards got you over a barrel unless you buy it (300 odd quid), get the hooky ones off amazon or know someone with it.

Bring back low-tech!!!

My understanding was that you could take your vehicle to an APPROVED third party garage..... must read my old (ex-new, now written-off) truck warranty......

Fookin modern cars. Manufacturers do have us over a barrel. I've heard they make more on the sale of replacement parts , than they do on the sale of new cars. When I had my Astra, a new cambelt kit from my local Vauxhall dealership, was almost £125. I bought the exact same kit off EBay (from another Vauxhall dealer) for only £35 (delivery was £4.99) A saving of £85. A mate fitted it and I paid him £40 for fitting and re-timing it. Local Vauxhall dealership wanted almost £200 + Parts to do the same job.
