Tiling on Drywall

Post by DaleHarris »

Good Day,

I want to Tile a wall that has been made with Aerated concrete blocked. As I am not a good plasterer, I intend to Dot and Dab Drywall onto the wall to get a lovely even finishs before tiling the wall.

The question is, will "Dot and Dabed" Drywall be stable enough to hold tiles?

I know when creating a Drywall Wall using wood or metal framework, it is recomended to lay two layers of drywall for stability, however if sticking the Drywall direct to the walls, I assume one layer should be fine?

Many thanks

One layer is fine with a continuous bead of bonding compound (drywall adhesive) around the perimeter of the board and a continuous vertical bead at 400mm intervals.

Then you need to keep within the tiling limits of plasterboard regarding weight. The weight being adhesive, tile and grout. Not just the tile.
