Blue screen

Post by Wes »

My computer keeps blue screening and restarting. The OS is windows vista. Anyone no what this is all about and how to fix the problem? When it happens I get a message saying 'dumping physical memory' and I panic every time it happens

Any thoughts?

Could be ought our Wes - take a snap with your camera while it's dumping the memory to a log file, might give us a clue.

Anything changed recently - new software, hardware, moved it somewhere?

Laptop/desktop?

I'll try and take a picture but it's difficult to catch...

It dumps my physical load and goes to sleep quicker than I ever could...I'm starting to think it's all my ex girlfriends getting me back for doing the same to them

Loads changed mate...I've increased my rubber fetish website usage ten fold...Think that's got anything to do with it??

Seriously, it's been doing it for years but not as frequent  I used to be able to open 10 plus windows but if I open like 3 now it dumps my bits everywhere

Laptop...About 5 years old...Help me obi one, before I skitz out :help:

Does it do it straight away or after being on a while?

If it's not software related (who knows), then it could simply be overheating!

Before it goes doolally, is the fan out or louder than normal? Bottom hot?

What make it is? My old HP from that era was legendary for hoarding fluff. Cos' I've got a big gob, I took it outside, put my lips around the vent and BLEW (not a sloppy, dribbling one - nice and dry please). You should see the CRAP come out the bottom.

Tell us more Wes........

A simple software VS hardware test is to download a linux live CD (I'm sure JJ will suggest one). Use it for a couple of hours, if it doesn't crash, it's software. If it does, it's heat/hardware.

It always happens when I've been turned on a while

Most of the time it happens when I'm streaming video on youtube...That's the honest answer

From the moment I turn this bad boy nasa destroying top spec laptop on...The flippin fans running! Does that sound right??
What make it is?
Advent...I'll give it a blow  Last time a chick said that to me, I said don't bother

Well, every time I see that rubber body suite, the computer flips up backwards and lands on the floor. At that point I'm normally rolling over and going to sleep, but I know it's still dumping my bits because I can hear it for a while afterwards..

I'll try that but it'll probably take me a month to really work out what you've just said

I hear linux a lot...What is it BG?? Is it a windows alternative

Don't usually run at full speed, but in fairness I've not had hands on with that one.

Look here: http://www.uktsupport.co.uk/advent/laptop/6311.htm

Half way down, it tells you how to get the bottom off - will simply be about 6 screws. It'll give you access to the CPU fan. Usually held on by about 3 screws - heatsink MIGHT be connected by 1 power cable and a bit of tape to the fan - blow it all off, make sure it's all fluff free.

Don't forget to create your recovery DVD if you've not already done it - you don't get discs in the box, you need to make them yourself.
