Overheating
Mates got a Packard Bell ixtreme m5722 that is overheating and cutting out.
Graphics card is probably the problem (maybe nVidia GeForce 220) don't know yet.
other than a good clean and a dollop of heat paste, any other suggestions.
What would be a good replacement card out of interest.

Re: Overheating
Depends which bit scruff, wheres it kept? Not in a cupboard or something??
Check the BIOS, see if it's got a health page - might reveal the CPU/board temp and /PSU voltages which is a quick was of checking.
If it's CPU over heating, take off the cooler, clean off the pads/paste and use a THIN layer of paste across the die.....a good glob of it will dry up and become an insulator in the future, making it suck donkey balls again.
Good blast of air, clean everything out too while it's apart.

Re: Overheating
Reminds me of yesterday. Wife took a call from her mum and suddenly said "no, goat face isn't here......I'll let him know you want him". I was confused, but she said they have a virus, AGAIN.
A-BLOODY-GAIN
They are quite savvy, which makes it even more annoying. Always the same type too. Click here to fix your PC - bam, it's a mess.
They have a server at their house which I installed as it got THAT annoying. Now, I go up and it just re-images the PC in about 20 minutes back to pre-infection. Best money I ever spent.
I've got 4 I use on a daily basis - not had a problem with any of them, ever.
It's not the AV either, tried lots - it's user error.
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, fook 'em.

Re: Overheating
Yes BKAC error
Spent 5 hours today getting a computer (mouse wasn't working) up and working, loaded the progs anti-virus etc and removed the (Elhid virus) restarted and the mouse stopped working again. back to square one
started again with a disc and it seems reasonably stable at the moment.

It's not for everyone (it's really for work), but if I need to install, I can re-image XP/7 and 8 within about 25 minutes with full drivers, software, AV and updates and include the HDD restore function. Couple of clicks
Still wouldn't do it for anyone though.....

Re: Overheating
Makes you wonder why they bother.
If someone says "my computer runs really slow and old" I usually reply "because it IS slow and old!!!!!!"
