Hi Everyone,
I am in the process of fitting a kitchen and have a query relating to the worktop.
The kitchen is a shallow u shape design with the bottom of the u approx 4.4m along a long wall with short returns at the ends.
The worktop is 3020 x 625 x 40mm solid oak block (not full stave)
The long run for the worktop is going to be longer than a single worktop piece. There is a hob in the middle of the long run and the design from magnet has the join occurring in the middle of the hob. Is this really a practical option?
It would mean that you only see a continuous line of the join across a few blocks of the oak blocks at the front of the hob rather than going the whole depth of the worktop but isn't it going to be weak as not much material is joined together?
Thanks in advance
Matt.

Tell magnet to take back the worktop and give you a 4m length which is what the designer should have done anyway

Re: Joining solid oak worktop length at hob
It was a while ago that we accepted the delivery from magnet and I thought we had flagged it up but were told that we couldn't be supplied with a 4m length. I can't remember if there was a difference of what trade or retail arms would sell.

You're definitely going to regret it if you have a visible join anywhere along the long run.
You need a 4m length for the central base of the U and either have 2 longer returns with a 3.2m centre - or one longer and one shorter with a 3.8m centre.
