After about 5 mins, with more tradesmen attending the premises, I got one of them to block her escape route with his van, then gave the keys back and again encouraged her to park and wait for the police (note that by this time I was already concerned I could be nicked by the Old Bill for 'taking her hostage' by taking her car keys  But believe me, in the heat of the moment, you behave irrationally?

She parked the car and left the engine running. So I stood right behind it? She said she has just lost her house so I must let her go.

Anyway, after 30 mins the police turned up and gave me her name and address on a piece of paper.

You should have asked where she last saw it  Bad taste

Better get the claim in before she moves on

You haven't heard the 4nny bit yet?

I phoned my insurers today.
When I explained everything to the chap on the phone, his first question was: 'What action are the police taking against you for removing the drivers keys from her ignition'?

No action, I told him.

'Well, you shouldn't have done it. So long as you have the car registration number, we would have been able to follow it up. That was a stupid thing to do'.

I agreed, but stated that I was just angry with the responses she was giving me.

Then his next statement really got me climbing up the wall.
'We may collect £300 from you which is your excess. But if her insurers are prepared to pay, then we will return it'

To think that my van is attacked by this lady while parked. She is witnessed doing it. Then I am told in effect by my insurers that: 'it's my problem'? What is the point of taking out a Comprehensive Insurance?

Hence the topic of this thread. Believe me I am really ANGRY

I hope it is not the norm?
I can't switch them as I paid in full. Renewed on 09/09/13.

Yes it's the norm. Someone drove into the back of me while stationary back in April. However until they admitted liability then I was liable for the excess for the repair. Luckily there was little damage so I waited until they admitted it before I got it repaired - so there was nothing for me to pay.

I just went to quote for a job this evening and the chap told me the damage could be repaired for £250?
That is cheaper than the £300 excess.

My missis sorted ours out.....woman handed over 300 clams in cash to get it sorted, no insurance involvement :thumbright:

Going to get it booked in next week and get it done and dusted - hope yours is less painful!

How do you crash into a parked car when there is plenty of parking all over the place
Hey Kintango. Years ago I took the wife and kids to Scotland on holiday (to ma hame toon) One day we decided to treat the kids to a visit to Edinburgh zoo. The car park there is on a big hill (as is the zoo) When we arrived, I parked the car amongst the hundreds of cars there. We spent all day in the zoo. Watched the penguin parade at dinnertime, and made our way right round the zoo from the entrance at the bottom of the mountain, right to the top, then back down again. Marvelling at the animals, fish, birds, invertebrates etc the zoo contains (missus even got to hold a couple of lizards and snakes) Anyway, when we came away from the zoo, the car park was virtually empty. I was absolutely cream crackered. Got in the car, reversed,, straight into one of the few vehicles left in the soddin car park.  Looked in the mirror and found a VW Campervan with French numberplate. :cb I did the only reasonable course of action open to me, and rammed the car into first gear and fooked off.    ( I did manage to wave a white flag our of the window to make them feel at home though,,, Sacre Bleu )

(watch some Frenchman now register with UHM and claim they went to Edinburgh Zoo on the same bloody day now)

I came back to the car one day to find a note from a female who had managed to hit my car in a damn near empty carpark, damage was a slight scuff to rear bumper, as the car already had a few battle scars I decided it wasn't worth getting upset about & told her to forget about it

When you have a accident, to the claim is settled you have lost your no claim bonus as well even if it was not your fault.
Also watch when getting a replacement car/van, don't signed any paperwork as it becomes a HP agreement . If the third party decides not to pay it becomes your debt..
I found out a few years back when I lock one of their employee on my driveway, when he accused me of damaging the van and I refused to open the gates to I got a right answer

Billy Goat, as transit boy just mentioned I could get burned for someone else's fault.
When I get to renew my insurance next year, one of the questions will be: 'Have you been involved (or had) in an accident in the past FIVE (or three with some insurers) years'? Have you made any claims in the last FIVE years?'
Then they put up your premiums if you answered yes to any of the above? :angryfire:

My insurers told me one of their garages will call me, collect my van, give me a replacement car?
Two hours later, I got a call from an 0800 number. Two bleeps and they hung up? On no account am I calling their 0800 number. By next week they will inform the insurers that they called and I did not answer? Lies. I'm convinced its the garage.

Joiner, me and the missus & daughter went to Scotland on holiday some 15 yrs ago for only 10 days. Best holiday I ever had. We did spend a day at Edinburgh zoo. I wanted us to go back there a couple of yrs later but the missus won't have it? Anyways, while in Scotland, we got lost (I drove there). So I saw a young 17 year old lass and asked her where I could find a petrol station? After several attempts to direct me, she realised I was non the wiser? So she asked if she could get in the car and take me there! Or what joy :thumbright: If that was London, she would phone the police and say: 'some pervert is pretending to ask for directions when she thinks they are after something else?' Most friendly set of peeps in the uk, honest. We even got lost on the way to the Zoo. So I parked, got out and asked passers by for directions. Though I asked only one chap, many other folks stopped to assist with the directions? Where on earth do they have the time?

BTW JJ, should you and your newest missus want to come down to London and visit the queen as well as see some Lima monkeys in London zoo, we have accommodation for you. Free OFCOURSE, but no cats I'm afraid. Sorry. Leave the cat with your neighbour.

Mate I envy you! At least the person owned up.

Twice this year someone has smashed in to me when I've been parked and drove off.

well, if the lorry driver had not witnessed the accident happen, she would have bolted down a hole like a rabbit, never to be seen
