Hi all,
whilst putting a replacement bulb into a ceiling light the whole downstairs circuit tripped, I reset the trip switch and subsequently no replacement bulbs work in this particular fitting....
I've stripped back the ceiling rose and everything looks fine with the wiring, put a multimeter over the live/neutral points where the pendant is wired in and this shows nothing with the switch off (as expected) and ~240V with the switch on so figured all is ok - same readings from the two pins on the actual light fitting.
All the other lights downstairs are working fine, but I'm not sure if this is the last one in the loop or not.
Probably missing something really obvious but thought I'd ask before calling out a pro!
cheers for any assistance,
/jc
Ceiling light no longer works

as you twisted the bulb to lock it in the wires in the actual pendant would have broken off and shorted.
it's a common thing so don't think you 're heavy handed your not.
turn the fuse off and then undo the pendant part of the fitting (the part you put the bulb into). you will probably find one of the wires has blown itself apart.
when you have it in pieces, make sure the wires are not hard. if they are i would suggest changing the fitting as it will have gone past it's best.
if the wires are still flexible then just strip the ends again, twist the cores and double them over and reconnect them. you should be ok.

Thanks for the suggestions,
I'd put another fitting up there to test whether it was the pendant itself and this didn't resolve the issue.
Will take this one down and check the internals as per your comments just in case but I suspect it's not the cause of this one :-(
Read somewhere else about a similar problem where someone had suggested about a problem with a bad neutral connection from a previous fitting - no idea of the relevance or anyway of testing for this?
thanks again!
