My built in wardrobes i have made

Post by jordancorey »

This is my attempt at making built in wardrobes in my sons bedroom. I redid all his bedroom. Plastered it, new skirting, moved radiator, put four double sockects in across the other side of the room, where they wasn't any. Put blue lights around his telly. Put up a ceiling fan and coving. Then painted it all. The wardrobes are made out of 2x2 for the frame and mdf. Total cost about £600.
How much do you think it would have cost if someone else did the work for me. (Just curious)

Chris.....

yep nice clean job bet your chuffed :thumbright:
only other thoughts would be regarding the boiler as in servicing and airflow combustible material spacing requirements :dunno:

Thanks Big-all, yes i am very chuffed with it. As for the boiler, it was inside a cupboard in the first place. I have put shelves above it but I have made it so they can come out so it can get serviced.

Looks a nice finish. Bet the son is has a big tick on his chuff chart.

Price is difficult.....ball park figure my end would be around the 3.5K - 4K mark but the wardrobes would have been done differently and you would have had all the appropriate paper work for the electrical work. We would have fitted the collar to the boiler flue where it meets the 90 elbow coming out the top, too. Looks like it is missing when the pic is enlarged.

Absolutely nothing wrong in the way the wardrobes are done, by the way.

Hi, how would you have done them? Just so I know in case someone asks me to build them some. Your way may be better and quicker.

Thanks

It is no better and may not be quicker.

I make a plinth base and then individual modules and sit them on top.

So I would have done two plinths. A wardrobe left, one right and a bridging unit. Modules made on the floor and then stood upright and placed onto the plinths.

The end product leaves a build the same as sharps etc.

You did make a nice job of them. Did you paint them or were they pre finished panels? You certainly have saved a lot of money. i too would have built them like Royal Oak. (Easier for me to transport in the van)

Hi Mailee, no I painted them, well the wife did while i was at work. You have to be careful painting MDF as it swells a little.
The hardest part of it was fitting the consealed hinges. I have put three on each door. As anyone got any tips about fitting the hindges.

What did you find difficult about the hinges?
