My Extension Renovation

Post by whysoloveless »

Hi All,

Over the past 6 months I've undertaken the renovation of the extension in my first home. The extension housed the kitchen, a shower room and a toilet.

With a lot of help from this wonderful site, forum and video content I am well on the way to completing it.

This was my first DIY project and the first time I've owned a home to perform a project on.

Over the next few weeks i'll update this post with additional pictures as things get finished but here is where I am to date :)

Mike

Originally a narrow kitchen made narrower by two work tops and a double width brick wall supporting the roof

A small power shower, a dodge curtain and a shower tray that I was able to pull away from the wall/floor it was so rotten.

First thing to go...The shower and knock the shower room and toilet into one. This is when I noticed the state of the rook, rafters and the supporting timbers.

Next I dismantled the kitchen and removed all floor tiles

At this point I decided that the roof would need to come off in order to open up the whole extension and a new roof would need designing that wasn't resting on the brick walls.

With the roof removed I could remove the final 2 walls and open up the extension.

Next I have to replace the two wooden single glazed windows in the shower room and toilet with a 1 centrally placed doubled glazed window. My first experience of brick laying. It took me a week! lol

awesome work I'd love to do something like that - a good chance to do all "those jobs" in one package vs. piecemeal over the years - keep cracking on.
