Again I digress, and I'm not sure if I've posted this before, but I get so pi**ed off with cold callers!

They know its an issue and a good selling point to have one here

Wanadoo/orange is awful...when I speak to them I lose count of how many 'wahts' eh' can you reat that...sorry...can you speak clealry plase?

In the end I end up saying...can you put me thorugh to someone who is or can speak english..

the reply...'I ham speaking for you in language english! ::b
the thing is they do speak english probably closer to the queens english than you or i do buuuttt

the local dialects on both sides add to the impossible senario where most conversations turn into a farce

now i am not critisizing the workers in any way as there education is probably far in excess of mine it just seems that the dialect thing is too different to work smoothly

Agreed, Handyman. Except keep out the Scots.

I can understand the northern Irish accent. And even the Welsh. But I have real problems understanding scottish accents on the phone. Scots should have elocution lessons so they can speak the Queen's English.

I'm on Sky broadband now, as was fed up with the indian call centres with BT.
But in all honestly I can say that the people who I speak to on Sky who some have really broad scots accents are much better at understanding the problem than the indian call centres., and at least I can get somewhere with Sky.
I would rather want something I dont have, that have something I dont want

Sorry people i have to defend This one.

Scotland in particular Glasgow has a lot of call centres like BT, Loyds TSB, SKY To name but a few.

The reasons for this is that studies have shown that the Glaswegian accent is one of the easiest in Britian to understand. That is one of the reasons it attracts the big companies.
:thumbright:
Different accents and regions is what makes britian so diverse and unique

I will leave you with this saying.

Hmm - personally I'd have to take your word on this  I love the Edinburgh accent, but to be totally honest, everytime I hear a Glaswegian, it sounds like they are picking a fight (bit like the Ulster accent) - I know they are not and are friendly people, just the way it sounds
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman, "Where's the self-help section?"
She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.
