Post by Someone-Else »

Day 1) Put up 2 things on freecycle.
Day 2) various emails, 1st one can I have both items, send email yes can you collect today or tomorrow?
Day 3) Email: tomorrow before 17.
Day 4) 17:00 comes and goes
Day 5) send email, do you still want items
Day 6)
Day 7) send another email, if you don't want items say so. Send email to next persons who asked (1 item each)
Day 8) Both say yes, not today but next day
Day 9) Left one item outside all wrapped up for collection, gets email, sorry car broke down.

Would you hit a nail with a shoe because you don't have a hammer? of course not, then why work on anything electrical without a means of testing Click Here to buy a "tester" just because it works, does NOT mean it is safe.

This is why my spare drill ended up in the bin. People just sit on those sites and INSTANTLY say yes to everything - I spoke to my mate about it, there are serial offenders. They say YES and THEN check the prices on eBay, sales sites.

If they can't make money on them, they just mess you around.

My drill is not in the bin.

Same here! We are selling cheaply our cooker and other furniture but every piece has been a pain. The cooker has loads of interested people but loads of numptys who ask the same questions that are in the ad?!

This is the umpteenth night that we have waited in for someone since 5pm and still no sign of them.

the one I like best is those on the freecycle site who put up something ON OFFER, then at the bottom go for the ''Fair Offer Policy'', I agree to wait for a week till those at work have a chance to apply for items offered.

Two weeks later, they have had no takers, so Re-Offer the same items but still insist on ticking the fair offer policy option box. WHY??????

Is this a 'city attitude' then? I suggest so because here in the 'wilds' any offers made via Freecycle are snapped up and there is rarely anyone needing a 'second chance caller'. If I see something I want I request and then, if I'm successful, get around to pick it up as soon as humanly possible! Items I've offered are similarly collected immediately.

The 'wilds' of West Scotland mean that offers made are few and far between and with many more people seeking than offering the process is definitely seen as a 'service' rather than an 'option. 'Townie' freecyclers have (usually) a multitude of sources and not bothering with a pickup just means waiting til another similar item comes up (and, probably, doing the same!)
Don't take it personally......

Heh, we had a large piece of carpet, about 7 meter long. We explicitly said that they would need a estate or large car to pick up. Some dozy bint turned up in a Yaris and then got hissy because it wouldn't fit, we had a similar episode with a fireplace

That said, we had a load of old pans, coffee machine, some camping stuff and various other bits that were hanging around. One guy asked if he could have the lot, he was only 10 minutes away so I offered to drop it off. When I got there this guy has just moved into a run down house with his young son -apparently his ex had cleaned him out with a gambling habit. All he had was a battered old sofa and his sons bed, and he was using freecycle on his phone trying to get bits for them to live reasonably normally

He and his son were over the moon with the stuff, I passed over some other old furniture when we moved earlier this year, I still see him regularly around and he always says thanks - not everyone on freecycle is a scammer or trying to make money out of it.

I've had mixed results both in collection and passing stuff on....
got a vax 3 in 1...doesn't suck....no wonder entire hose from one end to the other solid with hair and fluff, filters also clogged...40 minutes later, virtually good as new.
Got a canon A3 printer, advertised as fully working, got home, discovered wouldn't print on anything bigger than A4...dismantled it...big piece of blu tack wedging the rollers...works fine now even with cheap cartridges.
Offered a set of trailer wheels, nearly new tyres...no takers (if anyone wants a set of trailer wheels you can have them for the cost of postage / collect them)
Offered a vacuum....5 answers, 4 mostly polite, woman came today as arranged to collect.
Foreign student asked for an old film camera, wife had a film slr she didn't need, slight hassle getting a collection but he turned up on the 2nd attempt in the pouring rain walking from the bus stop way down the road...would have understood if he had wanted to rearrange...pleased as punch and extremely thankful for it.
