Tiling above worktop

Post by philrab66 »

Hi all
Doing a bit of tiling between worktop and top units. Top units are not in yet just have a question. I know you normally put a batten nearly one tile up then cut that in. This time I have a 200 x 100 tile with a bevel edge so do not really want a cut one on bottom. Would I be ok laying say 3 rows of tiles then making some props 2mm above tiles rest cabinets on them and fit. They are old cabinets with no adjustment on them just holes.
Or should I do it the traditional way and have a cut at bottom?

Thanks Phil.

Not entirely sure what you are asking, but provided your worktop is 100% level then you don't have to start with a batten..

Fit cabinets and then tile.

Tile straight off worktop with a full tile, to a level line and allowing 2mm between bottom of tile and top of work top.

Don't tile first and then put units up. You only have to slip and you will have damaged the tiles.

I wasn't thinking it through there is a window so I have whole tile level with window and it has worked out ok for rest of cuts.

First post was saying I did not want a cut on bottom row of tiles because of bevel. more important to have full tile at window.
