the smell!!!
I'm not sure if I've ever smelt anything as bad as this mornings task.
We had a spare fridge/freezer in the garage that was used for odds and sods while we still had it. Well, it packed in....sometime. Maybe a week, maybe two??
Anyhow - opened my garage and man alive, it had a fusty smell. Oh-ohhh. The fridge is not lit up.
Dragged it outside and decided to open the door and dispose of all the food
You could seriously smell it down the road. Meat, veg, 'stuff' and whatever else that was inside it. I actually had to go get a full FFP3 facemask from upstairs before I could get close to it. All the ice had melted into the mush - it was like foted stinking meat gravy!!!!
Did I mention the smell?????
Now I just need to figure out how to get rid of the fridge!! Thank god it's bin day. Hope they don't open the lid, they might think there is a body inside!!!!

Holy cr@p! My extended sympathies BG. Had the same issue many years ago and I STILL shudder at the memory!
Only one other stink has come close, shovelling bat sh*t out of a hollow wall partition.... indeed....

Re: the smell!!!
my younger brother lives with his mate in leeds. in a top floor (6th)of an appartment type building. they decided to have a party. there was so much drink they decided to get a big box. fill it with ice and keep it in there rather than in the fridge. they also for some unknown mad crazy geordie reason decided to put food stuff in the box aswell. the party ended and approx 2 months later i came down to pick my bro up to take him home for christmas. he said hang on bro i just need to empty this..... we had a party.... he opened the box and i started recording him on my phone. the smell was vileeee.... it was canny funny watching him empty out all the rotten pizza boxes and mouldy drenched pizzas and all that. almost being sick with the smell. it was a smell i carried with me all the way home aswell. leeds to south shields. 100 bloody miles and i could still smell it.
we poured the water out onto the roof and down the guttering. the whole flat was filled with the stench.
i dunno if i can tell yas what he said it probably smelled like though haha

bet that smelled lovely!toolbox wrote:Our car started to smell funny, it turned out to be a pork chop that had slipped out of the shopping bag a week ago
Worst car smell was when I spilt a latte on the passenger carpet. Right in the middle of summer......locked car, came back

Re: the smell!!!
You should take a whiff of some of the stuff we get back, as part of WEEE we will dispose of old equipment if the customer asks, but also some of the loan equipment we send out comes back smelling very special
Bearing in mind it's all commercial - ovens, fridges, ice machines from everything from your local Indian to the chains, some of the smells is enough to turn your eyelids inside out.
Fridges and freezers are the worst, as by nature they seal everything in, and as the bacteria generate heat, it seals that in too, making the perfect conditions for rotting and peutrifying everything into a bin-juice like soup that will turn even the strongest stomach. Our guy who handles returns has been doing it for 20 years, and you can tell if its bad when he turns green.

Re: the smell!!!
I'll top a porkchop...
my old man "forgot" about 2 roasts he had bought, left in a bag in the boot of car in high summer for 2 weeks...couldn't figure out the smell....then found the roasts...packaging "inflated" to the point of almost bursting
Second worst smell, my brother wrote a car off, went to the polis station to get the stuff they had recovered from the car (in a fetid ditch filled with minging water), put the bag in the back of my old dears car. He then forgot to take it out, I thought he had removed it....3 weeks later my dad finally uncovered the mouldy rancid plastic bag.....after thinking the tailgate had a serious leak....

Re: the smell!!!
We used to do a lot of work at an incineration plant back along. Primary business was cattle, and other livestock.... occasionally a fridge van full of defrosted/gone off foodstuff.... but the worst ever, was a truckload (ally bulker) of cats and dogs. The thing was parked up for weeks before tipping into the mincer.
The whole place was grim. You could still smell it even after a couple of hot showers.
Probably still have a few pics if you want BG

Re: the smell!!!
I had to get rid of a fridge freezer that the freezer part had been filled with fish, and then someone had turned it off. Near Madrid. In summer.
We tied it closed, took it to a part of the property that was never used and basically wasteland. It was so bad that we unloaded it, left it on a tilt, tied a rope to the handle and opened the door from a distance and watched it all ooze out.
A few weeks later we went and retrieved the fridge, hosed it out and then put it for disposal. Didn't smell so bad by then.

Re: the smell!!!
I'm not sure what's worse, fish in summer (the real Spanish summer, not ours) or Hitch's mashed up kittens?
My fridge/freezer doesn't seem as bad anymore....

Re: the smell!!!
used to work at the local airport one of worst jobs you could get was to empty out the airplane loo as if the pipe didn't catch right or it split half way though then you would end up covered left over airline meals
we had coveted milk float that we used as a honey wagon its batteries died one day half way though a plane so it was towed off and in to the charging bay half full it was then forgotten about as we had a new truck to play with so it was left on the charge for around 6 months in the middle of summer the tank was built around batteries so with all the charging cycles cook the tanks to say when we come to empty it the smell was bad is a understatement to drive it the 100 or so meters to the emptying point took as 15 mins as you could only stay in the cab for around 5 mins will never forget that smell lol
