I am a vey good DIY person and I have been work on my house since December and doing a complete renovation and I think it should be ok just wanted some advice as I though 5.5mm was thin but since I install my new t & g floor boards it seem really sold with no movements on your feet, so I thought upping it to 9mm plus the 18 floorboards would make it 27 mm .
So how many screws would you use and how far apart

IF I was doing it and had no choice..then I would be using 60mm screws into the joists every 300mm.wine~o wrote:I stand by what I said earlier. No-one is going to say "yes, 9mm will be fine" it might be OK, it might not be.
Flexible tile adhesive. And if I was doing it for a customer...I would not give any guarantee .

T&G floorboard will expand and contract over time like all timber does that's why others have said ply
5.5mm ply is far to thin 18mm plus is much better but I can understand you don't want to rip up new flooring but you are the one who has to live with it at the end of the day

(I wouldn't) but if I were chancing my arm on a job then I would be inclined to up the percentage of it not failing by a small margin by using BAL Fastflex adhesive.
It will only give yo a small margin of improvement. Better off to get the background correct though.
