Just got in from work to find an invitation in my inbox to review 3 products that I almost bought from Argos. As I had typed the review I thought as I had exceeded their text limit that I'd post the review here instead-
BT 8 Port Gigabit Ethernet Switch.
I tried to buy this item online from Argos and it stated on the website that they had one in stock at my local Argos. I added the purchase to my basket along with two other items for collection the same day. I reserved the items for local pick up and then was greeted by a message saying that the Ethernet switch would not be ready for collection until the next day!
To be honest this annoyed me so much that I'll try and never use Argos ever again!
I went online and purchased the item from CPC, who actually carry stock and also purchased the other two items there as well.
So to reiterate I never even purchased this item from Argos as they try and run a business with no stock, but no problems with the item itself.
Argos selling items they don't have

Re: Argos selling items they don't have
Thing is, like a lot of big retailers, the "In stock" list is not *live*, rather it's updated overnight......
As a result, something that was in stock at closing time say on a wednesday will still be showing as *in stock* up until closing time on Thursday...
Overnight on Thursday the stock levels will be updated so by friday morning the item will be showing as OOS...
So when you go into the site on thursday, Argos might well have sold the item between opening and you placing the order..
To keep an actual "Live" database of stock would require Huge amounts of information going from each individual store to H/O.
So I wouldn't add Argos to your ever-growing list of outlets you won't buy from..(Toolstation, screwfix...and..how many others )
It's just not possible to keep a fully up to date stock list..
