Sky taking the ...............

Post by Someone-Else »

Just opened letter from sky telling me that the g'tee on my sky kit has run out and I can renew for £99 /year

I pay enough for it as it is, if it goes wrong and I cant fix it I will get a freesat box.

Like most insurances I think this one is a waste of money

Would you hit a nail with a shoe because you don't have a hammer? of course not, then why work on anything electrical without a means of testing Click Here to buy a "tester" just because it works, does NOT mean it is safe.

Ah - the good old days, when you rented a 2-station telly from the electric shop and they came out and swapped it for another if it went wrong, and there were programmes only from about 5 in the afternoon 'til the National Anthem at bedtime.

As soon as it all got more complicated, (about 1970?) I just gave it up - much more satisfactory!

It sounds like a rip-off to me, I'll stick to watching DVDs on the PC.

It's amazing how quickly they'll send you a new box if you ring up to cancel your contract!

:withstupid: , and also like I posted on another thread last week I've been on half price sky for 5 years.
I refuse to pay them full price,Most people I know are on half price. Threatening to cancel politely works every time. Always ask to be put through to uk call centre as well.

Sky must be raking it in...have you seen the A list stars they've had in their TV ads lately ??

And then on the last day of the premier league they charged £9.99 for the important matches and failed to deliver...

I'm with freeview and freesat.. no silly calls to make to re-negotiate my contract.....because it's free.

It's all part of the dance - this should be in your calendar each year at contract renewal phase.

Used to have cancellation teams, now they are 'customer retentions'. They have packages to keep you, just have to agree to another year.

Their latest tactic is to give you a years package upgrade and contract - but to honour the pricing for 18 months. Sounds good, but it means you are probably loosing out for 6 months.

Sorted parents out this year. Better TV package, more suitible phone package and faster broadband. TiVo box, new 'super hub' and install. HALF the price they were paying.

IT's just a shame you need to call each year.

To be honest, as long as it fails you could argue that the box wasn't 'fit for purpose' or some other gumph. If they sell a 12 month contract, it should last the duration as you are unable to buy their kit from other places. If you out of contract - see above.

My half price deal every year doesn't tie me in to a contract,I only need to give 30 days notice.
Now is a good time to negotiate a deal with sky as the football season is finished and people cancel in large numbers so they like to keep subscriptions.

I wouldn't touch Sky with a bargepole. But then, I find football far more soporific than counting sheep.

Speaking of saving money, I got a call from Swintons the other day telling me my car insurance is up for renewal next month.. (Citroen Saxo VTR, 9 yrs no claims and it cost me about £550 last year fully comp) This year the premium is going up.  (according to the press/media, car insurance is supposedly coming down) Anyway he quotes me £688, but after 90 days I get £100 cash back, so it's only really £588. I told him I'll look around for insurance as money's a bit tight. Gets online to one of the comparison websites and WOWEE The cheapest car insurance quote comes in at,,,,,,,, wait for it,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, £215.

Bloody been ripped off for years now, so it's goodbye Swinton, hello a new insurance company.

Never, EVER, renew with the same company without having a good shop around first!

The wife used to just renew each year with Budget on her 12 year old Peugeot 106 diesel. When we bought her a nice 5 year old Hyundai Coupe (the 2.5 litre V6!) she was getting all upset because Budget wanted silly money to insure her lovely new rocket ship. So we shopped around and got fully comp with protected no claims on the Coupe for LESS than the robbing barstewards at Budget had been charging for the old 106!

Loyalty does NOT pay.

Are you sure it's from BSkyB?

My dad paid for a guarantee from a company who he thought was SKY but was from a company that sounded suspiciously similar. They let him think he was dealing with Sky but it was in fact from a company named Sky satellite services.

I claimed it all back from the bank for him.

I wouldn't bother with paying for the guarantee. If it packs him cancel your subscription and they'll soon give you a new box.

I'm with the cheapskates on here - freeview (sat) and a Lovefilm account (missus demanded it) so £5/month all in.
Don't take it personally......
