Large gap between worktop and wall

Hi. I've just had my kitchen installed and because the walls are out of whack I have a 15mm gap at one end of the run. I can't find an upstand to match the worktop (Colmar Oak) so I was going to use a Genesis matt aluminium coved tile trim to match the splashback, but these are only available for 9mm or 12mm tiles and mine are 6mm.

Can anyone recommend a product or solution please as I'm running out of ideas and desperately want to start tiling

A bit late in the day but they should of cut the wall out a little at the other end to reduce the gap. Can you infill with something or some backing behind the upstand, it would have to be tapered to suit the gap???

Your kitchen fitter should have scribed the worktop to fit...

I'd get them back (At their expense) to make good.

i always scribe the worktop if the gap is such that a tile won't cover,a few mm is acceptable but 15mm is way to big a gap to leave

Unfortunately I can't find an upstand to match, as I think that would solve the problem without any further work needed. If you know of anyone who does stock Colmar Oak upstands (Wickes used to do them) then please let me know!

That's going to be my next port of call. Tbh they made so many mistakes (minor, but annoying) I was hoping that I could just sort it without having them back out but maybe I'm hoping for too much...

To be fair, the worktop fits the other two walls so scribing may not have helped, but to make the other side square they probably should have plastered the wall to bring it out slightly. A tile trim or upstand would solve the problem so quickly but I'm just not finding them.

If the wall is badly bowed then tile trim/upstand isn't going to help, unless you can bend them to the profile of the wall..

I was worried it was bowed but I don't think so. I've placed a metal rule against it and I think it's just off square. If there is a little bit of bowing I should be able to compensate with some coloured worktop filler once the upstand is in. I'm forever hopeful but will be getting the fitters back to take a look anyway.

Do you mean the gap runs 15mm all the way or 15mm to 0mm ?? Either way if the wall is off the square the worktop can be fitted off the square too. The fitters have maybe moved the worktop off the wall to try and get the join tight instead of fitting it correctly ??

It's 15mm in the corner to 0mm. At 0mm the worktop is to the wall without having anything scribed from it. It's probably difficult to explain but if you can imagine the worktop is on 3 sides in a U shape, the first 2 worktops are square to the wall. The last piece has a 15mm gap at the end where it joins the other worktop and then diminishes to 0mm at the other end. Everything else seems square, e.g. the worktop is square with the cabinets which are square with each other, so I'm not sure how they would have made it fit better, but then I guess that's why they're fitters and I'm not. I've got a call out to them so we'll see what they say.

Rooms, sadly, are very rarely perfectly square.

Your fitters should know that.

question time now, did you supply the kitchen and worktop and if so from where ??

Did you employ the fitters directly, or did you pay for supply and fit ??

A lot of wickes worktops are made by wilsonart, try them and ask for stockist's if it's one of theirs.

Nope.. not bad news at all... you have a contract with Homebase to supply and fit a kitchen..

They have failed to supply/fit to an acceptable standard.

Your contract is with Homebase as the retailer. (Sale of goods act} they must put it right at their expense.
