laptops got a knackered battery
ok i have a acer aspire 5332 laptop. if i turn it on wihtout the charger plugged in it will work for a few minutes then turn off. it says theres a fault with the battery. so new battery needed.
its an as09a31 battery apparently. 10.8v 4400 mah 48wh
so whats the craik with buying genuine acer, or a different make equivalent with a higher capacity?
anyone recomend any websites to buy from? ive checked ebay out but dunno where else to go.
what about the ones that ship from china? to be avoided? my current original battery states its cells are made in japan but its assembled in china.

There are UK suppliers of battery packs that even offer guarantees! I got a replacement pack for my Acer 5735Z which has dropped from 2.2 hours life (when first fitted some 9 months ago) to 1.5 hours. But, to be fair, I leave the thing plugged in and powered by the adapter ALL the time so it won't be doing the battery any good as far as lifespan is concerned!
You have to 'work' a battery to maintain its reliability.
My new pack is 'slightly' higher capacity than the original but I don't use it off-line on many (any?) occasions anyway so unless you do wouldn't bother getting a larger pack.
I'd give you the link to the eBay site I got my battery from except I've closed that account since then so can't access it - bugger.
Anyway I suspect it was someone like this:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/For-Acer-Aspi ... 27cd2becf1

Re: laptops got a knackered battery
this is the original battery. got a few years out of it like.
so is there much difference between an acer battery and a copy battery?
£30 ish for a genuine battery or a shade more than a tenner...
also.. what can i do with the broke battery? cant just hoy em in the bin these days. can i drop em off at the tip or anything to be recycled?

Stuff the rules - hoy it in the bin.
Potentially there is no difference between OEM and 'copy' batteries - this assumes that the copy battery maker uses full-spec cells in their battery packs - something I wouldn't bet the house on.
Either way, if you plan to use it as a proper lappy (i.e. off the mains for most of its life) then get an original replacement. If you only go portable once or twice a week then I'd buy TWO cheap ones and carry the spare as well.

I'm guessing you don't do much food shopping: but most of the supermarkets around here have various re-cycling bins including one for batteries.fin wrote:

One day it will all be firewood.

That's what swayed it for me,got an iPhone and loved it and my misses got me an iPad Air for my 40th.
Everything just synched together, photos and all the apps.
I just use it for fun,Facebook and web browsing so it suits me.
My phone contracts up in about 6 months and I'm gonna get the iPhone 6 for sure!!

Re: laptops got a knackered battery
Fin I have bought a battery for Mrs C's Acer laptop some while ago. I got it from www.laptopsandspares.com (no connection) just recommended by my brother. Very good service and reasonable price.
