EPDM roof

Post by cotswold builders »

Not really show case, but just a couple of photos of basic laying the rubber after trying to explain rolling the rubber on a pipe.

This one is the rubber rolled up on a cardboard tube, size 7.7m x 6.8 ( quite heavy )

The Roof was boarded out by the builder,18mm ply which I wouldn't use, we formed lead outlets either side of roof prior to laying the rubber.

Rubber laid out for half hour to relax.

Glueing the main deck, apart from 75mm at all edges, one on a 12 inch roller, one rolling the rubber.

were doing an epdm roof at the minute. 45m long 6m wide. were breaking it up into bays though 3m wide by 6m. gonna break it with lengths of 3x2 and contact glue the rubber together.

we have been told by our suplier to stir the white glue up with a drill and plaster whisk. have never done it before. but he reakons he tried this and it works much better, have you tried this?

Last flat roof I did(not the epdm tho!) we used 25mm thick marine ply. Dwanged along each edge.
18mm has a bit much flex.
Carpentry,I can explain it to you but I cannot understand it for you.

You cant use contact glue to join the rubber, it will leak.

Use 75mm lap tape, this fuses the 2 pieces together, or if butt joining use 150mm joint tape.

Anything over 100 square metres should now have Russ strips fitted, which is a PITA.
