priming bare plaster for shawer

I have a small shower area to tile over new skim coat of plaster, and was wondering what you use to prime the plaster before tiling ?

Thank you. I have seen that stuff but thought it was just posh pva to be honest I have used just plain water in the past as someone told me to do years ago. Thanks again.

Dont use PVA it reactivates and can lead to failure of the bond between wall and tile.

Thankyou, I know that pva is not good, and have previously used water to slow suction, (its what the old fella who taught me used to do) I was just wondering what the pro's use.

zedhead, I used that WP1 as part of a tanking kit. Its tremendous stuff. Its like a very thick paint. (Tops tiles way to dear)

Shower is used 6 times a day for 4 or 5 years now and tiles are rock solid. no water ingress at all

Pva has its uses. Priming the wall for tiling Is not one of them..

As long as it's watered down enough it's fine to use imo . We've used it for years

Last year, I accidentally caused an argument between my neighbor and the bathroom fitters. They were using PVA and plasterboard in the shower area. Told my neighbor that he seriously needs to get a second opinion on that cos that is not an acceptable standard in my albeit non-professional opinion. If it was my bathroom, no way I would pay for that, especially at the prices they were charging! Bathroom fitter over heard and told me he often hears these stupid arguments from lay people who have been googling too much. I told him it doesn't matter on what qualifications I stand from, what matters is whether the facts are true or not.

They didn't bother even putting in a before-tile sealux shower seal or similar product. Only a massive line of silicone above the bath line. We live in a block of flats so all the more reason to get a proper job done.

My neighbour starting having doubts and started questioning him Then he said, "we are using then green plasterboard smartass"... oh ok then, that would put my mind at ease

(edit: having had to redo my own bathroom because of a cowboy fitter and 4 people wanting to use the only shower on a daily basis, I know what a nightmare it can be to redo it)

Never use cement baed adhesive directly on gypsum plaster, you get crystals forming which leads to the bond failing. The cowboys I employed did that. The tiles almost fell off anyway. I think PVA was regularly used in days gone by. The people who redid my bathroom used PVA. Sigh. Should have used something like Bal primer. So many trades don't do a job properly.

What's wrong with ready mixed adhesive? As long as the tiles are correct for it its fine.
