Loft Conversion

Post by chrisp157 »

Hi all,

I am thinking about converting the attic in a 1910's terrace house into an additional bedroom but I have a few queries to clear up first.

From the first floor up to the attic the walls in the two bedrooms are partition, will these needs to be replace by block work to offer support to the attic floor or is it possible to cross timbers the other way to the existing ones in the attic? Also Is there a minimum width a corridor/stairs can be?

Many Thanks

Hi

You will need planning permission and if not planning you will need Building Regs. In either case get the advice of a professional architect and get him or her to draw up a set of planes and not forgetting a full specification for the builder to follow and price to plus obtain planning and building regs. Don’t rely on barrack-room lawyers regarding this project there is too much at stake.

looked at a huge one last night.

Truss roof as well

customer is a kitchen designer, 'can i do the plans myself?'

had to tell him its a bit different removing bracing on a truss roof than moving some kitchen units around and that i want full detailed plans before i quote.

he looked crestfallen
