Should have been a freeby
I had some materials left over from a decking job when the punter changed her mind so asked the mrs to lay out the boards and show me what she wanted, I thought she only wanted a bit by the back door!!!... £500 later

Zedhead.... I hope you haven't put the deck bearers directly on the patio slabs without a DP Membrane??

They'd get soaking wet anyway wine-o,on a low level deck I usually sit the joists on concrete blocks on flat and up a few inches from ground level.wine~o wrote:I had to turn my laptop on it's side........Wes wrote:Looks well that...I've got a sore neck though Right click on the pic where you've saved it, hit 'rotate', simples

I know it's not good practice to sit timber on ground but with decking it's sometimes unavoidable.
The main thing to try and avoid is end grain sitting on ground level.
Carpentry,I can explain it to you but I cannot understand it for you.

Concur, even if it's just a slab off a patio...get it off the ground wherever possible, a bit of air flow underneath prolongs the life of the deck....steviejoiner74 wrote:They'd get soaking wet anyway wine-o,on a low level deck I usually sit the joists on concrete blocks on flat and up a few inches from ground level.wine~o wrote:I had to turn my laptop on it's side........Wes wrote:Looks well that...I've got a sore neck though Right click on the pic where you've saved it, hit 'rotate', simples

Re: Should have been a freeby
Only the front bearers are in place in the pictures the rest went in after that, the ones on the concrete slab are on dpc and the ones on the grass are concrete brick and dpc (I always put em in when the frame is built).... Some of the timbers by the original step are very close to the original slab but I needed to get the step height and the bit down the side (that you can't see) right.... will get the picture malarky sorted eventually lolwine~o wrote:I had to turn my laptop on it's side........Wes wrote:Looks well that...I've got a sore neck though Right click on the pic where you've saved it, hit 'rotate', simples
