Never Ending House Renovation/Extension

After having got that far, I had to have a break from being too involved myself. But in the meantime, Finally got the scaffold down from the back of the house to see the K-Rend in all it's glory.

I had some fun with that plastic panelling (plastivan by any chance?) in a bathroom, used it to re-finish a wet room type shower on a budget after a very dodgy council job when it was built. Not too bad to deal with once you get the hang of it.

Aye, Once you get going with it you get used to handling it etc. I used a hand saw to cut it, steady away with little pressure and it was alright.

Right then...Onto the side of the house...This is the 'Bonding' coat going on and there was also some mesh applied to the red brick.

Next job was MASSIVE! I mentioned earlier about how all of the bay windows on the street are leaning badly. They are all built on top of the window frames believe it or not!


Years ago somebody was killed when replacing one of the windows, so I stayed clear'ish of this job.

I'd ordered new windows, but also wanted both bays rebuilding and sorting for good. The way it was done took all the weight off the bays themselves as I had them rebuilt in wood, then insulated/boarded etc.

Here's one window removed.

And upstairs. This is just the internal wall you can see here lol. Steels were added, then strapped to the protruding floor joists, and in turn the wood work was all bolted to the steels/straps.

New windows! And the new wooden bay with kingspan insulation. No weight on the new windows at all now as the woodwork is fixed to new steels/joist ends.

Finally got it all rendered up...

Scaffold gone.
New windows.
Rebuilt window bays.
New soffits/fascias, guttering etc. A before/After pic. Excuse temp the pipework, I get to that later...

Back to the Bedroom come Bathroom...

I bought a solid oak furniture set, with sink and toilet etc and firstly 'set' about just sitting things in place, then leveled it all up and hung the top cabinets, cut the worktop for the sink, and roughly positioned the toilet.

Now came the real 'Head scratching part'. The new bathroom (Used to be a bedroom) is now at the other side of the house. So running the soil and waste took a bit of thought. Eventually I had to hope to god that I had the room to run them through the exterior wall, but yet still be inside the house (Extension) purely because the extension does not span the full width of the house upstairs.

It was made harder because the steel rsj for the extension AND the fact that the joists are running the wrong way, meant I couldn't run it straight under the floor level to the side of the house, but instead to go firstly 'right' into the new bedroom and then take a 90deg downturn. THEN run it along the joists (Ones in extension run right way!) downstairs, and to the side of the house.

Hard to explain but bloody hard work I know that much!

Luckily, it just went through and into the bedroom (Extension)
