Weird behaviour "Google Chrome."
Had to re-install Win7 this afternoon/evening.(don't ask, cause I've lost all my bloody stuff,, grrrrrr bloody Microsoft) ) Just about got everything right now,, but Google Chrome keeps opening new windows when I'm browsing (ad's etc)
I've installed MBAM and Avast antivirus software and run full scans on both. MBAM found loads of malware which it removed and Avast found 1 instance of a virus (successfully removed) Still Chrome keeps opening these new windows up. Starting to do my head in now and bloody infuriating.
Anyone got any ideas? (specially ones that don't mean spending all night on this pile of silicon shyte)

Re: Weird behaviour "Google Chrome."
Found the blugger. A malicious (and pernicious) little blugger called muvic smartbar/engine. Had a look on't internet and it's very hard to remove.. Why oh why does every site that offers to remove it ask for bloody money? Don't they know I'm skint? One shows the registry entries to delete, but I'm not that confident at editing the registry. (done it once some years ago on a Win XP machine and that never worked again) I think I got this when I downloaded either Chrome or Java (but both were from their respective sites,, (Google and Oracle) Hmmmmm I'll have to put up with it for now as I've been sat here all afternoon and evening.. Knowing my luck I'll get ebola next.

JJ, this ain't a fix mate but to keep you from loosing your marbles, open your 'task manager'. You'll likely see the little critter running in the list that pops up. Click on it, go down to the bottom right and click 'end process'.
You'll have to do that every time you boot your pc up but at least it'll kill it temporarily till you find a solution.

Stay off those 'special interest' sites JJ..........can't blame MS for your browsing routine

Re: Weird behaviour "Google Chrome."
Right then,,, MBAM installed and scanned Avast installed and system protected. When I had first re-installed Win7, I had to download the drivers from Nvidia for my graphics card. Once the drivers for it were installed. I went back to the Nvidia website to run a check it had installed correctly. That's when the Nvidia website said I needed Java installed. Went to the Oracle website and downloaded off their website, so Java was installed off the proper site.
When I first run MBAM, it removed 2 malware programs, Dunno how the hell I got these, but looking through installed programs there was the culprit Muvic. I think MBAM has unsuccessfully ?? removed it. Reading up on the internet about Muvic, it sets up registry entries disguised as innocuous stuff and is apparently very hard to remove. I've looked through the registry entries with regedit and honestly wouldn't know what to delete (only got to delete one vital entry and the computer will be bluggered. So,, any help would be most welcome (apart from asking me to re-install windows again,,, took hours to do)

Re: Weird behaviour "Google Chrome."
Maybe this is a stupid question – but did you have AdBlock installed before and not now? I have noticed that the version of the Internet I see depends greatly on whether I am browsing on my own Chrome (with AdBlock installed) or with nothing.
Alternatively, if you used a backup or copied version of Windows, you might have a virus installed in the boot? Strange.

Re: Weird behaviour "Google Chrome."
I think to be safe (er) I'm going to re-install Win7. instead of downloading graphics drivers, anti virus and Google Chrome, straight onto my PC, I'll download them separately on the missus comp to a usb stick (do all of the installs offline (so to speak) Then when everything's installed, go online for the various updates. All of the downloads will be done straight from the manufacturers/developers websites and scanned with AV before installing on my machine. The more I research this Muvic malware, the more I become worried that it might render my computer next to unusable. (apparently it can download things in the background and spread worse than Japanese Knotweed). Will post back when I have had enough time to do everything, with the results of my endeavours. . Before I sign off, does anyone know of any software which can check my bios (dunno if that can become infected, and hopefully not)

Re: Weird behaviour "Google Chrome."
Update, Still haven't re-installed Windoze yet. Downloaded and installed Spybot Search and Destroy tonight and ran a full scan (in safe mode) Still having the same problems, where a separate window opens full of adverts. So on Saturday, I'll re-install Windows again. This week though, Windows has found a sh** load of updates (older brother is an IT manager and he said it will still keep finding them) On Monday Win update found 172 updates that needed to be installed (one of them was a service pack though) Took about 4 hrs to install them
Ahh well we'll see how things go on Saturday.

Re: Weird behaviour "Google Chrome."
Final update. Re-installed Windows today. Installed Win7 (offline), once installed, downloaded AV software onto a usb stick on't missus computer and transferred this to my machine, before connecting to the internet, so I was fully protected. Downloaded divers for my graphics card, Chrome browser, Thunderbird email client etc. Now just sorting my favourites out. Happy to report there's no malicious software on this pile of silicon now.

If only Chop. Until last week I considered myself fairly "internet savvy" Just shows how wrong we can all be (at times) . Just glad I now don't have those annoying ads interrupting the "money shots"
