Thanks. Yes I have, and no it doesn't :angryfire:
Both pc's show the same options as the pictures above. (Didn't see the point of taking two lots of pictures that are the same)

Must be me.

There is some good news though.

The usb cable idea does not do anything. When plugged in there is no "you have just connected a usb device noise" from either pc.
So I gave up with that idea (sorry) and connected a cat5 cable to both pcs. Its not quite working as I would like, but there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Oh, and when I went to get the usb to usb lead i saw..........

Oh, sad that I am i took a video. Will upload that later.

Would you hit a nail with a shoe because you don't have a hammer? of course not, then why work on anything electrical without a means of testing Click Here to buy a "tester" just because it works, does NOT mean it is safe.

The conclusion.

I know not why, but despite wine~O's advice, I was unable to use windows easy transfer. As shown in the pictures, I did not have the options he suggested I use. Even with a usb to usb cable, no joy. A back up / copy hard drive copied but no idea where they uploaded to on the new pc, so i tried connecting both pcs to each other via a cat 5 cable, set up a network. It has taken some time to copy stuff over, and leaning that it must go in exactly the same place from whence it came, but no matter how hard I tried, I could not copy the emails over, had to resend all of the ones to keep.

Thanks to those that tried to help. :salute:

if your using a email program you have to export them to a folder, same with contacts

network cable is the quickest transfer, through experience easy transfer is slooooooow even over network connection, your lucky if you see 5-6 mb/s

I told you right at the beginning, you need a crossover cable (like a normal ethernet cable except the connections are crossed over), allowing two computers to communicate directly with each other.

You don't need a cross over cable 99.5% of network cards and on-board Ethernet of the last 8 years or so will auto negotiate the connection and handle the crossover and packets via the interface chipset (MDI/MDIX)

main issue is you have to configure the ip manually ie.

Machine A
192.168.0.1 Subnet 255.255.255.0

Machine B
192.168.0.2 Subnet 255.255.255.0

Don't think I have used a crossover cable since win 98/Me apart from a switch up link(s)

Thank you again all, but its all now done, no cross over cable used (as flash said)

I still dont understand why neither has the options suggested by wine~O , neither pc did, oh well not to worry, any one want a old pc?
