Wall tiling question

Post by peterp »

1. I am installing a new kitchen and intend tiling over the existing 6 inch tiles. The existing tiles appear to be fixed OK. Can anyone advise what preparation work for the tiling will need to be done.
2. Are electric tile cutters any good? I am thinking of the £30 - £40 models commonly available from Screwfix, B&Q etc.

kitchen tiling

You can tile over the existing tiles as long as they are all fixed securely, a friend of mine who is a tiler says that tiles are the best surface to tile on to!

Try and ensure that the joints on the new tiles do not match up with the joints on the old tiles and visit your local tile shop to get some good quality non slip adhesive!

The tile cutters in question are ok but it depends what you are cutting with them, for straight cuts a simple, cheap tile cutter like this is excellent-

Or for cutting L shapes a tile cutter like this is best, be sure to fill the reservoir with water though as they do not cut well dry-

I have had one of these for a few years and for DIY use they are excellent!
