Socket hole in tiles not big enough, what do you recommend?

Post by AJ1983 »

Hi, the hole I cut in my tiles isn't quite big enough for the socket plate to fit in so I need to make it bigger.

What would be the best way to do this?

I have an SDS hammer drill (Bosch PBH 2100 RE) but I don't think I can get a tile cutting drill bit for it.

Do I need to buy a drill? And if I do, any recommendations?

Thanks,

Arty

Since you haven't grouted you could pop out the tiles and re-cut? I would only do this if I had spares though, could be easy to break it.

If I were doing it myself I would put a tile cutting blade in my dremel or multitool, but obviously you need the relevant tooling to do that.

I would pop the tiles off and recut them

Surely yo only need to cut a small part of the tile to allow access to the screw tab? I have done this myself as I did not notice the tab when fixing the tile as I had paper covering the wires. I used my tile drill and cut two holes and gently tapped the tile away. It worked quite easily and the socket cover went over to give a nice clean finish.

Looking at the hole its a height issue DWD, the body of the socket won't go in, by quite some margin it looks

Have I missed the point? I was under the impression that the box is already there as I can see a tab. Surely the socket cover sits above the tiles? As I could not see the second tab I thought that this is what the OP meant?

:dunno:

It'll be the housing on the back of the socket cover that won't fit.

A socket cover from a different manufacturer might fit, i.e. one wth a housing that doesn't come as close to the edges?

If not, would a spacer plate (10/12mm) work?
