Dewalt Battery problems

I've got a Dewalt 18v XRP drill/driver that's about 4 years old the useage of it is very light ie lucky if it get's used once a month, the trouble is i've noticed the batteries are really failing and one has packed up today altogether to be honest they probably have not been charged no more than 50 times and are now defunct has anybody had any similar problems with 18v 3.0AH NIMH batteries and are they known for being crap, is it possible to have these looked at or should i just replace them plus does anybody know of good firms or sites that will repair / replace these

with nicad batteries half the life is the use and half is the age
in other words an unused battery will eventualy give up

battery chargers dont like extrems of hot or cold so try recharging in a warm room

very unusual for a battery to completly give up the ghost even a completly knackerd battery will hold a bit of charge

also are you shure its not the charger!!!!

Funny you say that Big all because i was wondering that, the lights flash but i have noticed that the timer which is supposed to be 1hr, the light stays on after about 20 mins suggesting it is charged, but the battery which stopped working altogether this morning, i put it in the charger and it flashes quickly which says it's damaged/corrupted but there is absolutely no life in it whatsover also both batterys display similar characteristics like immediately you use the drill it has hardly any power even after a full charge then slowly the power increases the more you use it but the battery dies after about 10-15 mins so i'm at a bit of a loss.

i have several dewalt 18v 2ah batts oldest 7 years newest 2 years ish

they are usualy good at holding charge

do you know anybody with dewalt stuff so you can put your batts on his charger and his batts on your charger to rule out the problem!!!

I have quite a few Dewalt batteries that will no longer hold their charge or even charge at all and so I am going to try this, when I get chance

Just to report back on this subject...

I have revived a couple of my batteries that had seen better days with the ysuusy method so it does seem to work.

I used 2 car batteries to give 24 volts & revived a 12v Bosch battery that would only run the drill (putting in screws) for a couple of minutes when fully charged...now it lasts for ages.

I also revived an old 3.6 volt B&D screwdriver I have...this had been lying in the draw for a couple of years & wouldn't even charge up.
I actually took this apart & spiked each cell individually with 12 volts.

After doing this the screwdriver now charges up & seems to work as well as it ever did.

If you can I think it's preferable to take apart your battery & spike each cell individually.
