Windows 10 upgrade..

Post by wine~o »

I think it was Billygoat who first posted about the free upgrade to W 10 for those who have W7 sp1 or W 8.1,

Well this morning I noticed a little windows Icon bottom right of the screen, clicked on it and was prompted to reserve the upgrade, Done.

Then went back in to check compatibility...

Is it a laptop or desktop?

I've seen mention of some Intel based display devices that are not compatible.....YET!

Before the upgrade is ready to download, it'll run another compatibility check, so this may well change as time goes on. If it's a desktop, it's an easy fix!

It'll be fine grasshopper - three is no consumer preview driver, but I expect there will be when it's time for release. Registering interest is the right thing to do :thumbright:

Consumer Preview is a release of Windows (or any software really) that allows people to try, test and feedback on issues and help with the steering and development.

When it goes gold/RTM (release to manufacturer) or STW (ship to world - or any other acronym you want to use), then that's what you'll end up with on new computers or in the shop in the FPP (full price product) box.

Some manufacturers don't play nicely with the development cycles as it's not in their roadmap or interest as it causes a lot of churn in their business as things are moving. They tend to release when the code goes gold and isn't going to change - like your Intel driver.

Just wait, is what that all means - before you get the update, it'll check again and likely pass.

Billy told me that I would get a free upgrade to 10 when I was wittering on about 8.1 when buying a new laptop recently. I saw that icon yesterday on my new laptop and it registered okay. I guess that as my lappy is new it complies with the Windows 10 requirements?

Check anyway, I've got 2 laptops, newer one with W 8.1 is the one with the issue, older laptop W7 no compatibility issues..

Click on the windows icon, in the pop-up box top left are 3 horizontal lines, click on that then "check your PC" if it's there..

If it shows "your PC is ready" then there are no issues.

its just a matter of time, Intel usually update the drivers fairly quickly - its more than likely the driver hasn't been signed by Microsoft yet

The HD3000 is good to go according to the app, but I am running a modded bios with the graphics memory tweaked and 16gb of ddr3 (oem bios locks it to 8gb max)
