Best option for removing wall tiles from plasterboard wall

Post by Sparky70 »

Tried a multi tool but it doesn't really touch it unless I'm using a cheap blade? I seem to be destructing the wall as I'm taking tiles off, any recommendations please?

Replace the plasterboard. It's 5 quid a sheet and the chances of you having any sort of decent surface to tile on once you've removed the tiles from the plasterboard are slim.

If the tiles are directly onto the plasterboard than 99% of the tile you'll need to replace the plasterboard

Ok thanks lads, I've never replaced plasterboard before, is it easy to do and what would I need to buy along with plasterboard ? Also is better to replace a whole wall or section of it? Here are a few pictures to follow.

Plasterboard is dead easy ,especially since you have already got the stud in place. Rip the old plasterboard down , take out the screws/nails. Cut new board to fit using a stanly knife to cut and snap ,if you are not so sure about using the Stanley use an old saw to cut the board . Place board against stud marking on the floor and ceiling where the studs are , then use dry wall screws to hold in place. Job jobbed. If you are in a bathroom maybe a good idea to use water resistant plasterboard .

You still have an intact wall, if I'm seeing correctly. It might be easier to just plaster over the surface.

Dab - Plasterboard Adhesive is a gypsum-based powder akin to plaster, comes in bags from a builders' merchant or Wickes/B&Poo & you mix it with water.

IF it's dot'n'dab, then yes. But in the bottom picture of three, could the pencil marks near the floor be indicating stud locations?

Thanks for reply, the pencil marks are from the floor being replaced recently.

Carefully! A straight-edge & a Stanley knife - mark the area in pencil and try to keep it square/rectangular, it will be easier to insert the replacement piece.
