Tempted by one of the sanders, what are the pros and cons over the two different ones?

There's both an orbital sander and a random orbital sander, though one is rectangular and one is round, so which is which?

Can you use them to buff and polish as well if you put the right material on the bottom instead of sandpaper?

dont think a polish attachments will work well as the orbits are tiny about 5-10mm :dunno:

The plunge saw with a guide rail is a great deal!!! Real shame there aren't a couple of extra lengths for the rail though.

Grumbledook The square based is more convenient on doors and skirtings. The orbital one has far faster stock removal and can be used for polishing with a suitable cream and pad.

No idea on the electric one, the pneumatic nailer is a lovely bit of kit for the money, that probably doesn't help though

I'm buying it mate, but for staples really as I have a Passy finishing nail gun.
It'll do 25mm staples but only 30mm nails, which I'd find a wee bit limiting for nailing.
I'll reserve judgement on how powerful it is, it doesn't really say........ :dunno:

I'd use it for hardboard backs on units & drawers etc. I recall putting a IKEA unit together recently & having to nail the back hardboard panel on & thinking; Christ I wish I had a good stable gun...... :angryfire:

The random orbit sander is the circular one, about 5" dia. They are 'hook and loop', effectively Velcro, which holds the disc to the machine. I find them better for a 'not quite flat' surface such as car body repairs and suchlike. That said, there is no reason not to use them on larger flat surfaces providing you keep the machine moving. As stated, they remove material faster than an orbital sander.

Whilst it may well be possible to get a 'hook and loop' type buffer pad, I've never had cause to research such.

The velcro backed polishing pads aren't that common but they have some http://www.amazon.co.uk/Velour-Backed-P ... J9XEY1T2RG

It's well worth getting some pad savers to save the velcro - otherwise you'll only get about 4 hours use out of it.

I used the stapler for the first time today due to our short holiday. Olive & I had a very enjoyable few days in Spain. Anyway, the tool confirms my expectations, very poor results with the nails - with it unable to 'bury' even the shortest nail....... :angryfire:

However, better results with staples; it appears to be more powerful with these, which I guess must be due to a larger striking area....... :dunno:

Overall it'll do a limited amount of jobs & certainly all I would do with staples in a domestic/DIY capacity.

I found both the nails and staples didn't fully go into the wood. Then I tried pushing down with force on to the gun when firing, both now fully penetrate the wood

Thanks
