New battery.

The battery may have gone totally flat, too flat for the charger to charge it.

You could also try it with no battery, but that is a long shot. I have to ask, have you tried a different charger?

Would you hit a nail with a shoe because you don't have a hammer? of course not, then why work on anything electrical without a means of testing Click Here to buy a "tester" just because it works, does NOT mean it is safe.

What model number lappy? Google the issue with the model number and inevitably someone else will have come across exactly the same issue and, perhaps, offer a solution.
Don't take it personally......

ok up date so far the problem seems to be bad connection between cord and laptop
push the connector in nought push a few mm more contact
the battery must also be below the cut off level or goosed as it shuts off on power on disconnection
will leave it charging all night to see what happens
thanks again for your help
