my son has a laptop around 3 years old he has been away for 10 months so it has remained unused apart from me charging it 5 months ago when i started it charged it for around 6 hours then shut it down
now its dead as in nothing
plug in the charger red light and 0.8w consumption so no charge
remove and reinsert battery several time as well as lead to charger and charger to laptop in case off bad contact nothing at all no lights no sounds just dead
any suggestions

New battery.
The battery may have gone totally flat, too flat for the charger to charge it.
You could also try it with no battery, but that is a long shot. I have to ask, have you tried a different charger?

What model number lappy? Google the issue with the model number and inevitably someone else will have come across exactly the same issue and, perhaps, offer a solution.

ok up date so far the problem seems to be bad connection between cord and laptop
push the connector in nought push a few mm more contact
the battery must also be below the cut off level or goosed as it shuts off on power on disconnection
will leave it charging all night to see what happens
