Just wait, is what that all means - before you get the update, it'll check again and likely pass.

I too have the "Free Upgrade" icon on my computer. I'm thinking there must be a catch somewhere along the line as I can't see Microsoft giving something away for nothing (unless Chez is now in charge of them)

No catch.

Upgrade is free if taken within the first year (and stays free forever more) or paid for after.

They want bums on seats - the money is in the services, like the store, not the OS sales.

So pray tell, what is the store going to sell me? Surely anything I need can be found on the internet for free? (or is MS going to tell me there's lots of software I need which has to be bought?) (eg email client, web browser, office applications etc)

You tell me!

Apps, music, films, software - same as Apple devices, same as Android devices, same as Amazon devices.

It's a consumption nation.

Don't want anything, don't buy - still no catch.

I've got the icon on this machine here too. I'm like joinerjohn though, I wonder what the catch is.

I don't just look a gift horse in the mouth, I want a full veterinary report on the horse's dentition, and a solicitor to read the small print. :-)

And I still wonder what the catch is.

Can't see one here though TBH. . . :thumbleft:
