Col, I have the notification for Win 10 on my taskbar. I've accepted it and apparently Win 10 will download on the 29th of July, then I can install it.

All currently supported versions of Windows are affected and will receive the fix via Windows Update.

He has XP..........so, not him then

windows 10 will be released in waves - imagine the strain on the servers if 1 Million machines did a 3gb download all at once it would grind everything to a halt - the back bone of the internet would just at saturated and downloads and uploads would slow to a crawl

Sorted now, thanks everyone: I turned updates back on before closing the PC last night and it was there again this morning, I noted the number of the update and after downloading it, it invited me to install it, I told it to do that and then was asked to download it again. this happened at least four times and so I googled the number (KB890830) and it seems that there have been many similar problems with this particular update number.

I can't now remember the exact sequence of events that led to it eventually installing (nothing fancy) but I later checked mrt.exe and it is now showing July 2015 instead of June 2015.

Another month and I can do it all again. ::b
One day it will all be firewood.
