Will grout adhere to latex caulk residue?

Post by Chickadee »

A previous owner of my house fitted a ceramic tile floor in the kitchen about 10 years ago. But instead of grouting it he used latex caulk between the tiles. I didn't realise what he'd done until I had cut some of it out. I've now managed to remove most of the caulk and am wondering (hoping) whether new grout will adhere. I know nothing sticks to silicone so I'm grateful that this is latex but I'm still worried that any new grout I put in won't stick. I'm removing all the caulk I can but as the tile edges are textured I can't remove it all.

Can anyone reassure me? I like the tiles and am not in a position to redo the floor much as I'd like to.

I cant offer reassurance on that, I don't know, although the grout manufacturer will if you call them.

However, a better way would be to find a product that will dissolve/remove the latex residue that remains. Again, the latex company will be able to tell you what would do that.

Then you can grout in peace.
