Hi,
About three weeks ago I downloaded Win10 onto my desktop having been running Win7 64bit. It was a clean download once it finally started; I had tried and all I initially got for a few hours was "Working on it" but once it ran all appeared well; I then turned off the computer as normal. Later when I tried to log on I was locked out by the new Win10 rejecting my password; I tried and tried to log on then a message appeared saying my hard drive needed repairing? I ran the repair program on my 1tb hard drive taking forever and when it finished I thought I was in with a chance but no this stupid repair message kept popping up time and again so I re-installed Win7 in disgust.
Not one to be beaten I thought I'd have another go at installing Win10 this afternoon this time I could sit with it and yawn. I clicked on the bottom right of the screen Win10 icon and it brought up a message I'm familiar with "Working on it"; I dumped this message a couple of times but it wouldn't go away so I browsed the web for information. I found a very useful website suggesting the problem was "Windows updates and I had to go into windows updates and check for updates which I did; after the program finished I once again clicked on the Win10 icon and this time I went straight into the download which ran for a while then it brought up a box regarding selection of keyboard? I selected the UK keyboard but then it sulked and once again I was prevented from downloading. Running the Windows updates activates the dead icon.
I turned the computer off then tried again this time I finally got a clean download taking about 90 minutes. Once again I had entered my password without difficulty and Win10 appeared to be working perfectly so I switched the computer off as normal.
When I next tried to log on I first encountered a seascape window which threw me but having sussed this out I was at the password window; DRAT; DRAT; DRAT; I was again rejected by Win10 having my password thrown out; at this point I could have screamed. However I was now already armed with a bit more information from my first Win10 download; a forum member had kindly suggested possibly my capitals lock had been accidentally caught by me and I was entering the wrong password? I had a look and the caps wasn't activated but neither was the light lit up on the numbers lock? I hit the numbers lock button and now my password was accepted; I had completely missed this on my first download and it was the reason my password was rejected because I have numbers in my password. This simple press of the numbers lock caused me a days work when I re-installed my Win7; if only I had known?
There are lots of websites showing many problems with Win10 but with patience I've now downloaded mine. The reason I downloaded Win10 is that updates will be available for a long time to come at least I hope so; I was very happy with Win7 but things computer quickly become outdated and obsolete; if I left it too long then decided to download Win10 would I have to pay for it because at the moment it's free?
I'm no computer whiz kid but I've had fun and games downloading my copy of Win10. Good luck with yours.
Kind regards, Col.

Re: Num Lock
Hi,
Last night I was using Win10 without difficulty then turned the computer off as normal. An hour or so later I logged on again to find no email or Internet connection; after 30 minutes of frustration I finally got both back online.
This morning when I logged on once again my email and Internet was down also I was beginning to get fed up of hitting the numbers lock each time I logged on. Refusing to climb onto this merry go round of messages saying cable not connected etc I've just deleted Win10 and returned to my trusty Win7 which I'm currently setting up so I hope this post displays OK.
Sorry Win10 I can't live with you so you've got to go until all the bugs are sorted out; life is too short to be taking a degree in computers each time I wish to connect to the Internet or access my mail.
Very busy day today; new room carpet being installed this afternoon so I don't appreciate computer hassles on top.
Kind regards, Col.

Re: Num Lock
I've had no end of problems with Email-the internet and Google.
Unfortunately Virgin take the rap as the service has been up and down more times than a pr of nuns knickers.
Mind you I still can't turn it off with "your pc ran into a problem and needs to restart".
Good move getting rid of 10, I don't like how Google are taking over my phone or computer, there's some dodgy going on ahead.
Got to open a google account to use their services and virtually sign your life away. and that includes goggle search, and the information they are collecting is very worrying.

Re: Num Lock
Hi,
Thanks thescruff; A chum has also informed me of privacy issues with Win10 where lots of our personal data are being collected and sold on? Bron and I have been on cable for over 25 years firstly with NTL and now Virgin Media; generally we are very happy with Virgin; I used to suffer lock outs from the Internet and email problems but it's been fine for a long time now. My recent problems have only occurred because I've downloaded Win10. Now I'm running Win7 again no problems. I became fed up of silly messages saying my disc needed repairing then after the repair program had run full length the stupid message kept appearing again; is it a parrot or a computer? Has a gremlin severed my Internet cable because I've not touched it in any way since the last log on but now messages saying cable not connected; try this; try this try that if it doesn't work phone your ISP or anyone interested; strange how it's suddenly connected itself now on Win7? I'm no computer whiz kid but I'm very unimpressed by Win10 and its bugs?
Having just re-installed Win7 I'm checking for updates and once these start to download its a long job.
I have created an account with Google so that I can create a free website which I'm so far very pleased with. Anyone spying on me can have my bills as well?
Welcome back Win7 you are my friend unlike your sibling Win10 who keeps attacking me without cause.
Kind regards, Col.
