Our house was built by Barratts in 1983 and has polystyrene bead cavity wall insulation. This is just 'loose fill' with the beads not being bonded to each other. Over the years the beads have both settled and / or leaked out of any small holes in the walls, particularly when we had replacement windows fitted. When I took off the window board in the bathroom during a refurb, I was disappointed to see that the level of the beads was now below that of the window board in the cavity. How far up the cavity it had originally been is unknown.
The question is, can I by beads to top it up and how would I get them in the cavity? Would it actually be worth doing, comparing cost with extra fuel used to heat the house.
I have contacted a couple of companies who said they would only completely replace the insulation, not do a top-up.
Any suggestions please?

Re: Cavity Wall Insulation
Don't know where you are man!, but in our area there is schemes to remove foam and non bonded beads for free through the local authourity, maybe not wide spread but theu do exist, my sisters has a council house and when you lift the hatch the foundations are a sea of poly balls but they won't do anything about it as the money they have is for private housing.

Re: Cavity Wall Insulation
Luckily enough I may have the answer for you.
A BG guy came out to my dads new flat to conduct a survey. He mentioned his cavity wall insulation must be about 30 years old and money will be available in Feb/March next year to improve it.
Falkirk area.
