At £20 it probably wouldm't be worthwhile, but for a tenner it's going to be worth considering as a DIY or starter set

I wouldn't even spend a tenner on it tbh. It's on a par with the makita drill/bit set or dewalt one from screwfix.....screwdriver bits are soft as butter and the drill bits are awful.
It's cheap tat and I was foolish enough to buy it at 20 quid.....

Then I would give it away. Diyers fall into the trap of buying these then wonder why jobs don't go well

How come Makita(or Dewalt/Stanley) put their name on it then? Any one who had never bought one wouldn't buy another, and that seems bad for sales. Don't these companies have a reputation? Someone buying one of these sets might not then buy something bigger by the same maker because they will assume the same poor quality. A respected company selling rubbish with their name on it can only tarnish a reputation.That seems daft to me.
I'm not saying you're wrong Stevie, or that the stuff is brilliant, more that if what you say is true, why is that the case?

Dewalt and makita do DIY gear as well as pro gear.
The 85 quid dewalt 18v cordless for example is DIY and wouldn't last more than a few weeks on site.
The 300 quid plus 18v cordless gear is aimed at pro users and is night and day from the cheapo drills.
95% of folk going into B&Q or homebase see dewalt or makita and think they are buying pro tools and it's anything but that. Have a look at the reviews for makita,dewalt and Stanley drill and bit sets in screwfix or B&Q,In general the reviews are bad because the stuff is rubbish.

Ok, but they're trading on a reputation, and the punter thinks they are getting quality gear when they aren't. That's a form of mis representation surely?
That's a shame as I was thinking of buying one!

I don't know about others but I always stay away from sets like this for trade use as having 1 drill bit of each size wouldn't last me . I buy quality drill bits in packs of ten pointless getting a set with one 3mm drill in.
The dewalt set does look a bit better quality and will prob do the job for diyers

I buy drills in packs of ten too. Kits like this are useful for storing drills though-and I know which ones are sharp. I have an old plastic box that must be about 20 years old. I replace the drills in it from the packs of ten as they wear out. It's a bit like the old joke about grandfathers axe.( I was going to put a "laughing" emoticon here but it won't work and clicking the little laughing face logs me out!)
