Glueing shower seal strip to wall?

Post by sharevari »

I've just tiled the entire shower corner and am about to install the shower tray. Since I'm doing all of this for the first time, I don't want to take any changes and do everything thoroughly. Therefore I have tanked the area and also bought one of the flexi seal strips seen in a UHM vid.

However, the tiles are relatively small 10x20 cm ones and I think I would need to attach the strip to the wall somehow before tiling to make sure the bottom row of tiles have a good grip. This is especially the case along one end where I have a short angled shelf (done in order to even out the non 90 degree corner) and where I will need to use very small cuts. Pic attached.

So my question is what do I use. Would any type of glue suitable for PVC work? Or could I just stick some tile adhesive behind the strip?

Thanks

I would use silicone to glue it on to the shower tray and wall. Get some weight in the tray to get the tray working level right. The tile adhesive will hold on the cut outs in the strip but if it has none the drill holes along to give an anchor. Looks good what you have done :thumbright:

So you're saying a bead of silicon on the back of the strip and then just squish it up against the wall? The side that attaches to the tray is self-adhesive so no problem there.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by the holes though?

Thanks

The strip needs to have holes in it to allow the tile adhesive to sink in to give a good anchor and bond for the tile. If the strip is solid then drill some holes in for this purpose. Some strips like edging strip has cutouts in already. Hope I have explained that properly for you?

Let us know how it goes :thumbright:
