Hi guys,
I'm going to be tiling the floor of my downstairs toilet but I need a little advice on how to prepare the floor.
At the moment there are vinyl tiles over concrete but it looks like the concrete is covered it bitchumen (or so I've been told!)
I've done a bit of research and think I should be removing the vinyl tiles, scrapping back any loose bitchumen and then applying an SBR slurry.
If that's correct I have a couple of questions:
1 - how do I mix an SBR slurry?
I read somewhere that is should be 1 part SBR, 1 part water, then added to tile adhesive??
2 - is this a particularly messy job as I've just finished decorating downstairs.
3 - do I have to remove the toilet before I apply or can I just go up as tight as possible to it?
4 - do I just thinly spread the slurry over the over the floor?
Any advice you could give me would be greatly appreciated!
Cheers,
G

Re: Prep for toilet floor
ceramic tile will raise the floor.
best to lift the wc and any ped basin and tile uder, this can have knockon effects.
clean scrape the floor back to concrete.
2 coats of sbr the second after the first coat dries. pure sbr no slurry needed, the sbr is a damp membrane.

Re: Prep for toilet floor
Thanks wes,
Is it the massive problem if I can't get all the bitchumen off? Some of it is really hard to shift!
So once I've done two coats of SBR I can just tile straight over it?
Also, is this the right stuff?
