Hi All,
I need to tile over wall in a bathroom (next to a shower) that has been painted with vinyl silk, could anybody tell me what product/procedure is best to use. Also this wall will have water running down it from the shower.
Many thanks in advance.

I was advised by a tiler when I did my kitchen tiling on to paint to do the 2 following things.
1. Test the paint adhesion. Get some masking tape and stick it to the paint. Rub on well and then leave it for half and hour (go have a cup of tea, or even coffee if thats your bag). After half an hour rip off the tape. do it roughly, violently, growl a little if you feel in the mood. If the paint remains....Tile. If the paint comes away, it'll need stripping.
You'll be able to get the tiles to stick to the paint, but if the paint is going to fall off the wall..... (I had to strip!!)
2. Give any paint you are tiling over a light sanding to key the surface. This helps the adhesive stick the paint a little better.
A standard waterproof wall adhesive shoud do.

Re: tiling over a painted wall
i just painted a whole job (plaster boarded walls) in vinyl silk paint then the client decided on brickslips ! so i just stapled (lots of staples) rendering mesh all over it instead of sandpapering or keying it i tested it the next morning and it was well and truly stuck!
