Binders in loft space

Post by b3nvw »

Hi all, I am new to this forum and am after some advice. I am currently developing a bungalow on a part time basis and to keep costs down i am undertaking the majority of the work myself. As part of the work my structural engineer has told me i need to put some Binders in the loft space to help strengthen the ceiling joists. I have bought the timber required (175 x 50) and was just after some advice on fitting these. ie, I need to use 2 x 175*50 timbers together so how do i fix these together and how do i fix the binders to the joists.

Look forward to hearing from you experts. Thanks in advance.

Hi,

and welcome.

Hopefully one of the pro's will add to this!

You should be able to join the binders to the joists using some coach bolts and some timber connectors + some penny washers.

I'm not sure what the engineer means when he said they need fixing together though
