a concrete like substance laid with a serated trowel
it sounds like floor tile adhesive used for quarry / ceramic tiles
this material is either "relativly" soft and can be removed with a heavy duty floor scraper, youd buy one at a builders merchants or a tile place like topps tiles
dont buy the one from screwfix it probably isnt heavy duty enough
if the floor tile adhesive is an epoxy a heavy duty floor scraper probably wont touch it.
self leveling compound isnt as easy to lay as it might sound, ive done it twice and wouldnt have laid lino on it. floor layers use special rollers to level it
wickes sell self levelling compound
