Well embarrassingly it's taken almost 4 months for an update! I've been crazily busy in work, the weather's been crap so I haven't been able to fit the last 2 velux in the bedroom and I stopped working in the attic a few weeks before Christmas so I could finish and redecorate the dining room ready for Christmas dinner!! Excuses over....please see below

As the ceiling is quite low in the bathroom I couldn't fit a normal light so i opted for LED spots. The only problem was trying to make sure vapour control layer was right whilst ensuring there'd be enough room around the lights so they didn't over heat. I came up with this idea as i couldn't see anything for sale that would work...I'm not quite sure if this will be any good but it was the only way I could think of making sure it was tight. The top of the 'boxes' are 50mm celotex.

I cut the polythene around the outside of the boxes and used foil tape to shut the edges.

yeah, thanks. The bedroom and bathroom just need boarding now and then obviously the finishing bits. Only thing after that is to connect all of the waste/water/central heating. The multi foil gets a lot of stick but to be fair we've had a pretty miserable winter and its been rather warm upstairs considering there are no rads plumbed in yet.

I see you've stuffed glass wool inbetween the rafters and put some thin visqueen over.
Where is the airflow coming from? Maybe I'm misinterpreting the photos but that looks like a recipie for disaster,you need airflow behind the insulation on the cold side or you're going to get serious mould and damp.

I didn't show it on the dormer build but the whole outside has celotex fitted - the roof is kind of like a warm deck, plus the polythene should stop any moist air getting to it.

Just out of curiosity what is the makeup of the dormers(insulation/air gap etc. And what is directly above the glass wool insulation? I've never seen a detail like that before(I've seen similar and it was saturated and mouldy within a few years)

How are the Combe ceilings insulated? Fo you have a minimum 50mm airflow between the insulation and the outside roof at those points?

from the outside in on the cheeks: render board, 25mm batton, membrane, 50mm celotex, 12mm ply. roof: fibreglass, 11mm osb, celotex, 12mm ply. the 'original' roof has superquilt with 50mm air gap left between the felt and quilt. ventilated soffits and ridge too, as well as 3ft of open space within the eaves.

With the celotexed light boxes were you just going to attach the fittings to the inner plasterboard?
