Wraps......

Post by ayjay »

..........or whatever you want to call them, the wife has taken a liking to them cos they're easy to eat (I have to cut up some foods for her).

I'm fast running out of ideas for different tasty things to shove in them.

I usually give the whole wrap a wipe over with something lubricating like mayonnaise,crème fraiche or hummus and always add some salad and then the tasty bits.

Tasty bits so far are Chicken goujons, either spicy or marinated in lemon and herbs, spicy Lamb meatballs, hot-smoked Salmon, Feta cheese, nothing is set in stone, whatever comes to hand is likely to find its way inside a wrap.

Got any favourite fillings you want to share?
One day it will all be firewood.

I recently came up with the idea for a Chicken Tikka Burrito.

It has the classic ingredients of meat, rice, salad and sauce but instead of your usual mexican fillings I used Tikka chicken, pilau rice, salad, mango chutney and yoghurt. Delicious!
You can make it really easy too by using microwave pilau rice (one packet will do several wraps) and precooked chicken. Tasty hot or cold.

Try the 'skinny pizza' route.

Spread tomato puree and cheese over one and DRY fry it (wrap-side down of course) with another wrap laid on the top, turning the whole lot occasionally until the cheese oozes and the outside is crispy.

You can use all sorts of other spreadable fillings - just as pizzas do - to make different kinds. Slice pizza-like and serve with dip or salad/both.

Some interesting ideas there that I can use - cheers.

I can see corned beef and stilton coming up for me (makes a great toasted sarnie - I already know that).

Hadn't thought of using bean sprouts or rice, but I will now.

I'll look into Pastrami, I've not had any for yonks and that was proper Pastrami from a good deli in London, I'll bet packet stuff from Tesco or whoever is not a patch on it.

I'll have try and come up with a pizza filling too.

It's going to be Lamb Koftas with salad and hummus tomorrow cos the lamb is already in the fridge waiting to go.

The winner so far:- Halloumi (fried) and Chorizo,(fried with the Halloumi) one red onion sliced and fried (for just one minute to take off the raw edge for the wife) Bean sprouts, and Hummus generously spread over the wrap.

The Lamb koftas are good, but they do require industrial quantities of spices.
