Quoting a hedge cut?
Tried to quote for a simplish hedge cut 50 meter long privet and confer hedge only 2 or 2.5 metres tall with tree which needs some higher clipping but nothing I haven't done before and my gardener friend said quote £200, I said they'll never pay that and he said £150. personally, I think £80-100 as I will take it all way. Am I quoting right?

That's got to be at least a days work; possibly more..
I don't do this sorta work I even get a man in to do ours.. He charges about £200 including taking it away..

Re: Quoting a hedge cut?
I had two 25/30 metre long 6ft privot hedges in my back garden and could cut both in about an hour and a half. I was able to dump the clippings(collected in dust sheets) in a wooded area behind my garden tho which cost nothing and there was a considerable pile after the two hedges were done.
I now have a fence and it was the best money I've spent on my garden!!
Hate cutting hedges!

Re: Quoting a hedge cut?
Are you guys cutting them with manual shears like?
A good quality hedge strimmer makes light work of hedge trimming. It's the clearing up the crap that takes the time. Remember you're not a young pup anymore wine-o and you're probably a short arse as well. At 6ft5 and blessed with youth I can easily do the task in the time scale I mentioned.
Do you swing the lead on your own jobs??

Re: Quoting a hedge cut?
If you're taking the waste cuttings away then I assume you've got a waste carriers licence and your paying to properly dispose of the waste.

Re: Quoting a hedge cut?
Crikey the wife used to whinge when we had ours cut for £70, but that was years ago. We've maybe 250 foot of 5 to 6 foot privet which we usually do 3 times a year over several weekends. Cuttings go in the brown bin every 2 weeks or get used on the borders as mulch. All but 80 foot or so has to be cut both sides and the top as it's our border to the road.
At a guess it would take half a day including cleaning up if we did it all in one go, but that's both me and the wife not just me.
We've had quotes between £75 and £300.

Re: Quoting a hedge cut?
As the OP has done similar work, and so should have a rough idea of how long it's going to take. Add a bit of time for snags, then multiply by hourly rate.
That will be the answer.
As a self employed person, once you start going down the route of guessing what people can and will pay, you're going to lose money.
Charge a reasonable rate for the job.

Re: Quoting a hedge cut?
It will take about 3 hrs to cut (because of tree)+ 1 hr to tidy up + 1 hr to get rid of stuff. 5x £15= £75
The lady just wanted to pay £30-40! I think I need to learn when to walk away.
